Pediatric Case Management Tool (PCM TOOL)

The establishment of a system for monitoring pediatric HIV cases was carried out as part of an initiative by I-TECH CIV, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Côte d’Ivoire. The primary goal of this platform is to provide a centralized and efficient way to monitor and track HIV cases among children and adolescents aged 0–19 years.
This project led to the development of a web application for the regular monitoring of the pediatric population. The system’s impact lies in improving the follow-up of pediatric patients through weekly updates of patient information and appointment tracking. Additionally, the PCM Tool enhances pediatric patient care by providing alerts and notifications aligned with national guidelines.
Here are some key considerations taken into account during the implementation of such a tool:
- Data collection : The tool enables the collection of relevant demographic and medical data on pediatric HIV patients undergoing antiretroviral treatment, such as care identification codes, age, gender, maternal status, medical history, sibling testing, antiretroviral treatments, and more.
- Treatment monitoring : The tool enables the monitoring of pediatric patient treatment and ensures the regular intake of antiretroviral medications. This can be achieved by recording prescription dates and doses administered based on age and weight.
- Viral load monitoring : The tool allows patients’ viral load to be regularly monitored in order to assess the effectiveness of treatment and make adjustments if necessary.
- Reports and analytics :
The tool features a dashboard that allows for visualization and analysis of:
The number of registered patients
The treatment status of patients
The number of patients referred to an OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children) program
The number of patients who have undergone viral load testing
The number of patients with suppressed viral load
In summary, the implementation of a tool for monitoring pediatric HIV cases aims to improve the management and outcomes of pediatric care for HIV patients by facilitating data collection, treatment monitoring, and medical decision-making. This tool can play a crucial role in the fight against HIV/AIDS in children and contribute to improving their quality of life and overall health.
Strengthening the Health Information System

I-TECH CIV is a key player in the field of digital health in Côte d’Ivoire. We design and deploy computerized tools such as electronic medical record (EMR) systems and dashboards to improve health information management. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (DIS and DISD), we develop interoperable solutions to optimize clinical services and enhance the efficiency of health systems.
- Laboratory Information System (OpenELIS) : Development, deployment and maintenance of OpenELIS in 170 public laboratories. This system integrates advanced functionalities for microbiology, tuberculosis and bacteriology, while centralizing data for efficient national monitoring.
- Patient Identity Management (PIM) : Assignment of unique identifiers to prevent duplicates, facilitate patient tracking, and improve the quality of care.
- Training and Support : Strengthening the skills of healthcare professionals through training and ongoing technical support.
- Improving Data Quality : Regular assessments and implementation of dashboards for monitoring viral loads and neonatal diagnoses.
- Interoperability and Data Centralization : Integration of systems like SIGDEP-3 and OpenELIS for seamless information management.
Thanks to its initiatives, health data is more reliable, accessible in real-time, and better utilized for informed decision-making. We contribute to higher-quality healthcare while optimizing the performance of health systems.
