In collaboration with and in support of Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Health, the United States Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) aim to accelerate improvements in patient identity management.
With the expertise and resources of the CDC’s Technical Assistance Platform (TAP) and the International Training and Education Center for Health Côte d’Ivoire (I-TECH CIV), Côte d’Ivoire will be able to quickly evaluate the current solution, identify gaps, and determine an accelerated pathway to address these gaps using already available tools and processes, including those led by TAP.
The patient identity management (PIM) improvement effort aligns with the national health information system strategy.
This collaboration will achieve its goal through a series of activities designed to build on Côte d’Ivoire’s previous investments and complement them with additional standards-based tools and practices for scaling beyond their current capacities and uses.
In the short term, the objective of Phase 1 of this exercise (FY22; September 2021 – September 2022) is to design and test the next phase of Côte d’Ivoire’s patient identity management solution, which improves the ability to identify duplicate patient records across and within systems. This will enable better tracking of patient activity to inform decisions regarding the direction and resources for care and treatment (C&T) programs.
The long-term goal of the patient identity management solution is to enhance the continuity of care for patients across the health sector by enabling their longitudinal medical records to be available at any point of care where they receive services.
Finally, the improved solution will provide a foundation for additional secondary use of health sector data, such as for surveillance and research users.
